Former WRG Creative Communication Film and TV Producer Completes Triathlon after Stroke

Laurence James, a talented film and TV producer, completed the Wilmslow Sprint Triathlon on Saturday 9th May in a personal best time, just 12 months after suffering a stroke.  Laurence, aged 43 years and father of two, is not a typical candidate for a stroke. He lived a full and healthy life before he fell victim to the stroke.  He had a successful and established career as head of WRG’s film and TV department, exercised regularly and was training to run the Wilmslow half marathon.

Laurence says, “I went through a whole spectrum of emotions after the stroke not really knowing what had happened or what my recovery might be. Making a full recovery made me feel very lucky; I know that so many others remain disabled by their stroke. Taking part in a triathlon may seem extreme but it gave me the goal I needed to return to fitness after the hospital gave me the green light to go back to a full exercise regime.  The Stroke Association works tirelessly for stroke victims and I wanted to do what I could to give something back - especially to those who really need their help.  Everyone at WRG has been hugely supportive and the company sponsored my Triathlon efforts by committing to match pound for pound the money I raised which rapidly brought the total to £2481.50.”
