MAPCOM 2008 a rewarding day
25th June 2008 the IVCA holds the annual MAPCOM conference at the Design Council
Attended by a selection of the corporate sector’s communications producers and commissioners, the conference looked at the opportunities and challenges that 21st Century communications can bring even when facing tighter budgets and tougher messages to convey. Speakers included DCSF Director of Communications, Jane Cooper; IVCA Chairman, James Humphrey; and LeaderGen, Marilyn Comrie; whilst IVCA member services, Every Sense provided useful tips about how to recession proof businesses.
During the conference, the IVCA launched their Climate Change publication. The book, Inspiring Communications, completes a two-year Defra-funded project into how Climate Change issues can be communicated in the corporate sector.
Marco Forgione, Chief Executive said, “The clear message from MAPCOM is that against a backdrop of increasing financial uncertainty and economic instability that as a profession we need to focus on explaining return on investment and the value added of corporate communications.
There was also a plea for Government to review its procurement procedures, which at present do not capitalise on the greatest asset of this industry, its skill in delivering creative, effective, and innovative communications solutions.
At a time when this energy and creativity is at a premium internationally the Government’s procedures are unfortunately hindering their deployment for the benefit of national campaigns.”
