Steve Garvey shares his 2010 prediction

Steve Garvey, CEO World Television

What can 2009 tell us about 2010? It was a tough year for our industry, whether you are a commissioner or a supplier. Budgets were carefully spent and some projects from previous years did not happen.  But a full-blown economic catastrophe was averted and video became an even more vital tool for corporate communicators.

Content is king regardless of the economic cycle.  Good content engages, motivates and stimulates audiences, especially in uncertain times. Good content comes in different guises. Some clients switched part of their budget into live webcasting for its immediacy, accessibility and cost-effectiveness.  Others continued to have highly-polished content produced, but they were more likely to deliver it by streaming solutions than hard copy.

Crisis changes behaviour and things will not return to ‘normal’. 2010 will be more like 2009 than 2007, so expect current trends to continue. Social media will grow as a distribution channel. The globalisation of commerce and the reliability of streaming will attract bigger suppliers into some areas of corporate video communications. That could make it a really interesting year.
