The Quick and the Dead: Surviving the Downturn - IVCA Seminar

IVCA Seminar with Simon Brauner-Cave

Wednesday 1st April 2009 at Briffa, Islington - 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Simon Brauner-Cave of Spencer Cave Consulting will lead the next IVCA seminar which will focus on managing your business through the downturn.

Simon has spent 20 years working in and consulting to media, entertainment, finance and technology companies around the world. Spencer Cave offers bespoke strategic consultancy including classical strategic development, M&A advisory, business development and turnaround support. ‘We try to cut to the chase, be practical and make a difference. It sounds obvious but it is a less common approach than you might think!’

The form of the Seminar will be a presentation followed by questions and discussion. ‘I hope the value of the first part will be putting everything in one place – as a manager myself I find it hard to keep all the things I could be doing top of mind. Hopefully, the value of the second part will be that at least some Members will start to consider new ways and approaches that they can take to make a difference to their businesses.’

The seminar will emphasize early planning – taking stock – and then taking quick action. ‘All businesses are different but all businesses are the same. We will look at each area of a business in turn but not every area will be applicable to any one business. The important part is to find those areas that really do matter and act: or what kind of recession are you going to have? The downturn will likely blow away those that are not taking swift appropriate action.

We will also consider:

  • Conducting a review
  • The competitive environment
  • Approaches to existing customers including pricing
  • New markets and new customer groups
  • Necessary and discretionary expenditure
  • Business development in a downturn
  • Technology
  • Your people
  • Cashflow and financial management
  • Merger, sale and acquisition opportunities
