About Awards

Judging of the IVCA Awards

The Awards will involve approximately 200 judges. Each Award will be judged by a different panel, consisting of at least five judges from across the visual communication industry. Each panel will be chaired by an individual selected for specialist knowledge and professional skill. Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards will be awarded to the best entries in each category. The Grand Prix Award is selected by a jury from all the category Gold Award winners, and is awarded to the most outstanding work submitted.
The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on the evening of Friday 4th April 2008.

Categories

FILM, VIDEO AND DVD (12 categories)

1. Motivational Training: Programmes to encourage/train people to use or change interpersonal or behavioural skills. Programmes can be company specific or generic.

2. Practical Training: Programmes for an organisation, or for retail or hire, made specifically to train people in practical procedures, techniques and operations, including those relating to products or services.

3. Health and Safety: Programmes dealing specifically with aspects of health and safety in the home, community or work place (such as ways to prevent fires or industrial accidents).

4. Charity and Public Welfare: Programmes that support charities or charitable causes, or deal with issues of public welfare.

5. Education: Programmes designed specifically for use as teaching aids in schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions.

6. Recruitment: Programmes designed to attract people to a particular trade, profession, career or organisation.

7. Sales of Products and Services: Programmes intended specifically to sell products such as appliances, food, cars or services including pensions, insurance, banking, or legal advice.

8. Corporate Image: Programmes intended to give an overview of a company or organisation and to enhance its image internally or externally.

9. Public Relations: Programmes intended for external use, specifically to promote an issue or area of interest, or to be part of a PR campaign, but not containing sales messages.

10. Internal Communications: Programmes to change attitudes or provide information to employees or members of an organisation, which do not form part of a regular series.

11. Regular Communications: Programmes made on a regular basis (at least quarterly) as part of a series for employees, agents, customers, shareholders or others. This includes programmes delivered via satellite. The programme entered must be backed up with a second example of a programme from the same series.

12. Business to Consumer Promotion & Information: Linear business communication programmes, transmitted on broadcast media, which promote the reputation and/or brand of a company, institution or charity etc, or provide business information, public service information, educational materials or training materials for the general public. Entries could include business focused documentaries, public service broadcasts, business news programmes, infomercials, advertising related materials and broadcast sponsored programmes (BSP’s) etc designed to enhance the profile of the organisation.

LIVE EVENTS (3 categories)

13. Internal Live and Experiential Communications: For the effective use of a live event or experiential installation to communicate specific messages and goals to an organisation’s internal audience. This includes, but is not limited to, employee communications, motivational projects and training. Please request a Supplementary Entry Form.

14. External Live and Experiential Communications: For the effective use of a live event or experiential installation to engage an external audience. This includes, but is not limited to, the promotion of goods and services, brand building, training, product launches, PR events, recruitment, award ceremonies and celebratory events etc. Please request a Supplementary Entry Form.

15. Events and Public Display: Film and video programmes specifically for showing at events or in public places, including conferences, conventions, AGMs, award ceremonies, museums or exhibitions.

INTERACTIVE MEDIA AND WEBSITES (5 categories)

16. Internal Interactive Media: Programmes delivered to an organisation’s internal audience via CD/DVD or online (including intranets). This can include any form of communication other than those with specific education or training objectives.

17. External Interactive Media: Programmes delivered to an organisation’s external audience via CD/DVD or online (including micro sites). Entries can inform or recruit outside an organisation, but must not include sales messages.

18. eLearning: Programmes delivered via CD/DVD or online which are intended to train or educate an audience using interactive learning solutions. Entries will be accepted on CD/DVD or web based (intranets permissible).

19. Online Sales and Promotion: Interactive online solutions designed to promote or sell goods and services outside an organisation. All web-based solutions are permissible.

20. Web TV: Award for the best use of media streaming as part of a communication strategy. Entries will be judged on their innovative approach and use of content, as well as the technical excellence of the project. Entries can be for any site produced over the last 12 months.

PRODUCTION ARTS AND CRAFTS (6 categories for Film, Video and DVD production)

21. Best Animation, Graphics and Special Effects: For the design and use of the most effective and appropriate animation, graphics and/or special effects.

22. Best Direction: For the direction which has made the most significant contribution to the overall effectiveness and creativity of a programme.

23. Best Editing: For the editing that has made a tangible contribution to the effectiveness, style and execution of a programme.

24. Best Music: For the music or soundtrack that most significantly enhances a programme.

25. Best Script: For the most original, creative and effective script-writing.

26. Best Photography: For the best film or video photography.

SPECIAL AWARDS (3 categories)

27. Best Drama: For the most outstanding drama programme or outstanding performance or performances within a drama programme.
28. Best Documentary: For the most outstanding documentary programme.
29. Industry Award For Effective Communication: This Award recognises work which has made a positive, substantial and verifiable contribution to a client’s business. Submissions are judged on the basis of written evidence. This award is open to any visual communication project. PLEASE REQUEST SUPPLEMENTARY ENTRY FORM.
30. The Grand Prix Award: This Award is selected by a jury from all the category Gold Award winners, and is awarded to the most outstanding work submitted. This Award cannot be entered directly .
