Judging the IVCA Awards
The IVCA Awards involve expert judges. Each category is assessed by a panel drawn from across the visual communication industry, including IVCA members and client representatives. Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards will be awarded in each category. The Grand Prix Award is selected by a jury from all the Gold Award winners for the most outstanding work submitted.
The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on the evening of Friday 26th March 2010.
Special announcement about the categories for the IVCA Awards 2010
In a change to the main IVCA Awards the winning entries to the IVCA Livecom Awards® will be put forward to the main IVCA Awards for the Event of the Year. There will not be separate event or experiential award categories in the IVCA Awards 2010.2010 Categories
FILM, VIDEO AND DVD
1. Motivational Training: Programmes to encourage or train people to use or change interpersonal or behaviour skills. Programmes can be company specific or generic.
2. Practical Training: Programmes made specifically to train people in practical procedures, techniques and operations, including those relating to products or services.
3. Health and Safety: Programmes dealing specifically with health and safety in the home, community or workplace.
4. Charity and Not for Profit: Programmes which support charities, not for profit organisations, social enterprises or charitable causes or deal with issues of public welfare.
5. Education: Programmes designed specifically for use as teaching aids in schools, colleges, universities and other education institutions.
6. Recruitment: Programmes designed to attract people to a particular trade, profession, career or organisation.
7. Induction: Programmes specifically designed to support and integrate new recruits into a particular trade, profession, career or organisation.
8. Sales of Products and Services: Non-broadcast programmes intended specifically to sell products such as cars or services, such as legal advice.
9. Corporate Image: Programmes intended to give an overview of a company or organisation and to enhance its image internally or externally.
10. Public Relations: Programmes intended for external use specifically to promote an issue or area of interest or part of a PR campaign.
11. Internal Communications: Programmes to change attitudes or provide information including CSR messages to employees, agents, customers, shareholders or others.
12. Business to Consumer Promotion & Information: Business communication programmes transmitted on broadcast media which promote the reputation; brand identity; educational or training materials; business information or public service information for the general public.
DIGITAL AWARDS
13. Internal Digital Media: Programmes delivered to an organisation’s internal audience digitally (including intranets). This can include any form of communication other than those with specific education or training objectives, which should be entered into Category 15.
14. External Interactive Media : Programmes delivered to an organisation’s external audience digitally. Entries can inform or recruit outside an organisation and may also include sales messages designed to promote or sell goods and services outside an organisation.
15. e-Learning : Programmes delivered digitally which are intended to train or educate an audience using interactive learning solutions. Entries will be accepted as a link or digital file (intranets permissible).
16. Experiential Digital Events : Award for the most effective use of digital technology in the live event and promotion world. This may include video streaming, virtual events and augmented reality. Entrants will be judged on their ability to use technology to elevate traditional events and promotions to a new level.
17. Web TV and Asset Management: Award for the best use of media streaming, digital platforms and rich media asset management as part of a communication strategy. Entries will be judged on their innovative approach and use of content, as well as the technical excellence of the project.
18. Web 2.0: Award for the most innovative creation of web-based communities, hosted services, web applications, social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, viral, viral seeding and blogs. Entries will be asked to quantify the effect such a community has had on a product or message.
PRODUCTION ARTS & CRAFTS
1 9. Best Animation, Graphics and Special Effects : For the design and use of the most effective and appropriate animation, graphics and/or special effects.
20. Best Direction : For direction which has made the most significant contribution to the overall effectiveness and creativity of a programme.
21. Best Editing : For editing that has made a tangible contribution to the effectiveness, style and execution of a programme.
22. Best Original Music and Sound Design : For the best piece of specifically commissioned music or sound design.
23. Best Use of Music : For the piece of music or soundtrack which most significantly enhances a programme.
24. Best Script: For the most original, creative and effective script-writing.
25. Best Photography : For the best film or video photography.
SPECIAL AWARDS
26. Best Drama : For the most outstanding use of drama in a series or programme.
27. Best Documentary: For the most outstanding documentary programme or series.
28. UK Event of the Year : For the most outstanding UK based live or experiential marketing event. This Award cannot be entered directly. The winner will be selected from the winners of the 2009 IVCA LiveCom Awards.
29. International Event of the Year: For the most outstanding International live or experiential marketing event. This Award cannot be entered directly. The winner will be selected from the winners of the 2009 IVCA LiveCom Awards.
30. Best Industry Newcomer : For the most impressive newcomer to the industry. Entrants to this Award can be producers, directors, animators or editors and should have worked in the industry for less than 4 years. Submissions must include examples of work and a supporting statement from a production company (75 words max).
31. Laurus Award : For the most outstanding production achieved for a budget of less than £15,000.
32. Industry Award for Effectiveness : For the production which has had the most positive and verifiable impact on a client’s business. Submissions are judged on the basis of written evidence (supplementary form required).
33. The Grand Prix Award : This Award is selected by a jury from all the category Gold Award winners and is awarded to the most outstanding work submitted. This Award cannot be entered directly.

Rules
01. All entries, except for category 12 and the Digital Award categories, must have been originally produced for non-broadcast use.
02. All entries must have been produced in the period from January 2009 to December 2009, with the exception of the Industry Award for Effectiveness, which may have been produced in the period from January 2008 to December 2009.
03. Entries for awards, with the exception of The Industry Award for Effectiveness, must not have been entered into previous IVCA Awards (not including the Clarions or LiveCom).
04. Projects must either be in English, subtitled in English or accompanied by a translation of the script in English.
05. Film and video programmes submitted for judging must be on DVD. Responsibility for the technical quality of the DVD lies with the entrant.
06. There must be no mention on the DVD, CD-ROM or entry form, of who produced the project. All credits must be removed.
07. For the interactive media and websites categories, entrants will be required to send their product on a CD-ROM or DVD, with full installation instructions and software requirements. Websites will require a full address and any necessary passwords.
08. DVDs of award-winning entries will be kept by the IVCA for use at screenings and IVCA events. All other DVDs will be ready for collection from the IVCA at the end of April 2010. Collection must be arranged by the entrant. Any materials uncollected by the end of June 2010 will be recycled.
09. Projects may be entered into more than one category. One copy of each DVD, CD-ROM or other product, along with any supporting materials, must be provided for each category entered.
10. Responsibility for entering the correct category lies solely with the entrant.
11. All projects are entered entirely at the entrant’s risk and insurance is their responsibility.
12. The judges will disqualify an entry if insufficient, illegible or incorrect information is given on the entry form.
13. If a project has supplementary materials of any kind, they should be included with each entry, together with details of how they are to be used.
14. All entries must have been cleared for copyright. The IVCA assumes this has been undertaken by all entrants and accepts no liability.
15. Unless informed otherwise by the entrant, the IVCA assumes that winning materials will be made available for both the national and regional post-Awards screenings and the new IVCA Digital Platform.
16. Defective material will automatically be disqualified.
17. The closing date for the 2010 competition is 3pm on Friday 4th December 2009. The IVCA has the right to refuse late entries.
